Ren Fest!!!

I know I missed another post, but this time I have a valid excuse. I was at REN FEST! haha. Sunday I woke up very early and spent 3 hours on hair, makeup, and costume preparation. At 8:45 Josh, Eric, and I were on our way. Between the Ded Bob Sho (no, I was not forced to be a zombie again this time), Tartanic, the Mud Pit, jousts, sword shops, candle shops, yard long alcoholic beverages, people taking pictures of our costumes, and other people's amazing costumes, it was the best day EVER! :-) We stayed till almost 6, at which point I was too exhausted to keep going. After driving home, I came back to my apt and passed out. Can't wait to go again in a couple weeks!

For today's entry, I'd like to talk about Anime. I know that most of you think its just as dorky as Stargate, if not more. But again, I have to disagree. Its not always so bad! Now, I am one who doesnt like translated episodes. I will watch the subbed episodes, but the ones with the voice overs are definitely quite annoying. I also prefer subs because most of the subbing orgs will pick up episodes as soon as they are released in Japan, and have them subbed and available for online download by the end of the week. This gets rid of that horribly long time gap (sometimes several years!) between Japanese episode release dates, and translated episode release dates in the US. The horrible quality of translation makes them seem ridiculously cheesy and dumb. But if you can stand reading subtitles, I would first reccomend Bleach. It is probably my favorite Anime, and I have enjoyed most of the 190 current episodes. I am currently also watching several other series, but I will let you know more about those later.

Bah!

Alright, so i missed a day. Its the first time I have missed in a week, though! So I'm already doing much better than I thought I would be. I have decided I will most likely soon take down the link between this blog and my facebook, so those of you who only read it from there should actually check out the real blog. www.sabriel9876.blogspot.com

For yesterday's entry, Fictional Friday, I will just say this...I still have not even STARTED reading any of those new books I got. Thats how crazy things have been for me lately. And my list of books I still want just keeps getting longer and longer. Frustrating.

Now for Sizlin Saturday. Hate to make this whole entry so short and thoroughly unfulfilling, but theres not much I can say. Well...more like theres not much I choose to say. If you must know more, it will have to suffice that I tell you I don't know what I'm doing right now, nor do I care...but sometimes I like the little surprises life throws at you.

Torrential Thursday

I'm tired, so I'm just going to start listing stuff off...I've been sick. I still am sick, actually. So that definitely tops the list of my annoyances. I studied like crazy for my western civ exam, and I still don't know if I did well or not. I really, really, really need a break from school stresses, and there is not one anywhere in sight. I am fast running out of money, and its starting to make me nervous. I still do not have my costume for ren-fest this weekend...parts of it are in the mail and may not even get here in time. :-( I never have time to read anymore. And even when I do have the time, I always get distracted by other things. My friends are really starting to frustrate me. No reason in particular...in fact, I'm really starting to frustrate myself. I need to get in to see a doctor to get some new prescriptions, and I can't find the time. I am constantly in a bad mood recently, and nothing seems to fix it. I was going to join a gym, and now there is no way I can afford it. So much for getting back in shape and feeling better about myself!

Media Monday

Well, it has only been 5 hrs since my last post, but I needed a break from studying so i figured I would get today's post out of the way now. Its "Media Monday," so I would like to start by talking about the show that I am currently addicted to. Thats right, everyone...Stargate. SG1, of course. I've downloaded all 10 seasons, and am currently on season 7. I'm moving a little slowly, just because of everything else I have to do, but I watch another episode every time I get the chance. I know that a lot of you think that Stargate was a nerdy show kept on air for a small group of fanatics, but my opinion is quite the opposite. If only more people would watch it, they would see what I'm talking about. Yes, it deals with space travel, and aliens...but it is not your typical sci-fi adventure. It deals with real people, living real lives. It deals with duty to family, friends, and country, and other issues that affect our lives daily. Its really more of a drama then a sci-fi show. If you haven't checked it out already, you should definitely put it on your list.

Stargate Atlantis, a spin off of SG1, is still airing new episodes. I have not watched too many episodes myself, and I may be slightly biased because of my love for SG1, but I do not think it is up to par with the origional.

If you are an Amanda Tapping fan, the actress who plays Samantha Carter on SG1, she is starring in a new series on sci-fi called Sanctuary. Its very different from Stargate, but it seems like it has potential. The entire show is shot on green screen, and then the backdrops are all computer engineered. It gives the show a completely differnt quality that has never before been seen on TV. I would also suggest adding it to your list.

And finally, Nick and Norah's Playlist. I know this movie has recieved some bad rap...but I'm here to tell you it is actually quite good. I went to see it expecting nothing special, maybe even something slightly immature. However, I was greatly surprised to find a hilarious movie that kept me engaged and entertained. It reminded me a lot of Juno. And no, that has nothing to do with the actor shared by the two movies. It just has that same sort of dry humor. I highly reccomend it.

Alright...I could continue, but I should save some for next week. I have to get back to studying anyways. AND I'm getting kinda hungry. I guess thats what happens when you havent eaten since 9 and you stay up till 5 am. Lol. Goodnight!/Goodmorning! :-D

Surprise Sunday

Phew! Just made it in time. I almost forgot to post. Its been a very long day. I have been running a fever of 103 all weekend, and I feel absolutely miserable. And on top of all that? I have an exam tomorrow. An exam that I have to do some MASSIVE studying for. And I haven't been able to concentrate so far. GAH!!

On a lighter note, I picked up a learn to knit book yesterday. I've been crocheting for about, what...10 years now? And I still have never tried to learn how to knit. So I figured I'd get to working on that. Seems fairly simple so far. Once I'm done working my way through the lessons I'll actually start on a project. Have a pretty lil sweater and hat set that I'll try first. Pattern looks somewhat easy, but we'll see how it goes.

Sizlin Saturday

Yeah...here is the basic summation of my "love life". Confusing as hell, and not worth substantiating. I am just like anyone else in this lovely little world of ours...I am confounded by the opposite sex. Just within the past few months, though, my viewpoint on relationships has changed drastically. Well, more my viewpoint on what I'm looking for. And let me tell you, it is definitely not a relationship. At least, not at this point in time. However, I have come to realize that does not mean I should shut myself off to any such possibility. I should also be open to new people, new experiences, and live life a little bit more than I have previously allowed myself. How am I supposed to open up to the possibility of a new relationship, if I cannot even open up to the possibility of a new friend? I also need to work on taking a little better care of myself, and stop suffering from self-abuse that I have mentally distorted to seem harmless.

Sorry if this post seems a little bit boring. Just wanted to lay the foundation for all my fun "Sizlin Saturdays" to come. They will most likely be fairly brief and concise. I've got a lot of fun stories to tell. You know...maybe I should call this "Shocking Saturday". Haha.

(P.S. In case you have not noticed yet, I have a new poll. Check it out.)

Fictional Friday

I created a new update schedule, and I am going to try to stick to it. I've explained in more detail in the left column.

In the past two weeks, I have purchased and ordered a ridiculous amount of books from Barnes and Noble. And I don't even have everything that I want yet! Of course, that list never stops growing, but I am concerned I am developing a habit of book hording! Lol.

Purchased from the store:
Lullabies for Little Criminals
by Heather O'Neil

Wasted
by Marya Hornbacher

Cryptonomicon
by Neal Stephenson

True Crime
edited by Seventeen Magazine

Model
by Cheryl Diamond

The Me Nobody Knew
by Shannon McLinden

Ordered Online:
Brisingr
by Christopher Paolini

Artemis Fowl
by Eoin Colfer

Oblivion
by David Foster Wallace

Will of the Empress
by Tamora Pierce

Tales of Beedle the Bard
by J. K. Rowling

A lil overboard, maybe? Not to mention I already have 20 or 30 books at my apt that I have not started yet, or still have not finished. Yeah...definitely book hording...
